I grew up in Henderson, NC. It's small town located about 45 minutes north of Raleigh, NC, where I currently reside. I have been involved with fitness since the beginning of high school where I was on the wrestling team and ran cross country. I frequently trained and was really interested in the results that I received from it. I liked being able to mold my body into whatever I wanted or needed it to be. Other than that, I had no clue what that lifestyle had in store for me. It wasn't until a few years after high school that I started becoming aware of all the beneficial perks that come along with a fitness lifestyle. I was a member at the local YMCA in Henderson. I pretty much lived in that place! I knew everybody there and became good friends with most members. Which is not hard to do if you stay in a gym for 4 to 7 hours a day! It definitely became my hangout spot. I enjoyed the atmosphere and talking to all the older guys in there about there views and experiences through their time involved with fitness. I became addicted! I was in college at the time studying criminal justice because that is the career I thought I wanted. If I wasn't studying for an exam or something, best believe I had the latest issue of Men's Health magazine in my hands or surfing the web for new and updated information in the fitness world! Fitness slowly but surely overpowered my interest in criminal justice. By the time I received my degree in criminal justice I wasn't even really that interested in it anymore. Needless to say I decided to change my path. What made this so easy was friends, family, and sometimes random people asking me for help in the gym. They knew I had a good knowledge base on the "what, whys, and hows." So that would lead to many questions about what to do, what not to do etc.... This is when it hit me!! I wanted to be a Personal Trainer! Immediately I knew that is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I started searching the web for information on how to become a CPT (Certified Personal Trainer). I come across Interactive Fitness Trainers of America (IFTA). I contacted them, they sent me a book and a ton of worksheets to complete and study from. I completed everything in about 2 months, went to a five hour workshop to go over everything on the worksheets, took a 100 question test, aced it and BAM! That was it! I became a CPT that easy. It did not satisfy me, it was WAY to easy! I needed more! The next decision I made was one of the best. I found the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) on the web. A 500 hour program consisting of 100 hours of anatomy and physiology, 100 hours of business theory, 100 hours of nutrition, and 200 hours of actual hands on practical time. This program was so direct to personal training, it had to be just what I wanted! It was!! Nothing could have been more informational than this program. To top it off, at the end of the program people actually get a degree in personal training and nutritional consultation not just a certification. I graduated from this program in the beginning of October 2011. Since then I have received my certifications in kettle bell training and suspension training. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer through American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). I have worked in several gyms as a Personal Trainer since my first certification but I came to realize that it wasn't for me. That's when I decided to start Fly Away Fitness. I am constantly acquiring new information and certifications so I can be the best I can possibly be for my clients. Helping my clients reach their goals, boost self confidence, and become healthy and active is very rewarding to me! But MY goal is to teach my clients what they need to know to carry on a healthy active lifestyle long after they leave me and for the rest of their life!!

I moved from Wilmington NC to Raleigh less than 1 year ago. Even though I miss the coast immensely there is a ton of fun things to do around here and I'm falling in love with the Capital City more and more each day! I still make my frequent visits to my family down in Wilmington to enjoy some of the beach hobbies I love and spending time with friends and family.
I'm a graduate of Raleigh's NPTI (National Personal Training Institute.) I have a degree in Personal Training & Nutritional Consulting. I am an Elite Trainer with 7 years of experience in the fitness field.
I specialize in: Strength training, HIIT, and circuit style workouts, group classes and outdoor bootcamps. My certifications include: Strong over 50 Training (SO-50), kettle bells and I just recently received my certification for the world famous P90X. FIRST AID, AED & CPR certified as well.
I love my job.
